Presentation title: A prelude to a long journey: from Big Data to Scientific Wisdom

Prof. Demirközis an astro-particle physics professor at theAnkara-based Middle East Technical University. She studied at MIT andOxford for her undergraduate and graduate degrees respectively, workedat Cambridge University, IFAE Barcelona and CERN for 15 years onsilicon detectors and data analysis for the ATLAS Experiment as wellas the space radiation studies with the AMS Experiment on theInternational Space Station. She is currently the director of theResearch and Application Center for Space and AcceleratingTechnologies (IVMER), which performs space radiation tests, buildsradiation detectors for space and for medical facilities as well asanalyze big data for space science.Prof. Demirköz was a Marie Curie Fellow under FP7, co-funded THE Porthumanitarian hackathons at CERN and received multiple awards includingthe L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science International Rising Talentfellowship. She served on the governing board of TUBITAK for threeyears and is a memberof the Turkish Academy of Sciences and theGlobal Young Academy as well as a WEF Young Global Leader.
