Peter Löwe advocates Open Science and Open Source approaches, serving in the Open Source Geospatial (OSGeo) Foundation  as Vice President of the Open Geoscience Committee and member of the GRASS GIS Project Steering Committee. He represented DIW and OSGeo in the international Enabling FAIR Data project and participates in the FORCE11 Software Citation Implementation group.

Peter studied Geography and Computer Sciences at the University of Würzburg, Germany and Austin, Texas, USA. Peter received his PhD (Dr. rer. Nat.) in Geography for research in South Africa, which introduced him to Open Source.
